This is a full bolt in manual rack for the MKIV Supra. It works with the factory outer tie rods, bolts into the factory mounting spots, and comes with an intermediate steering shaft to adapt to the Toyota shaft that comes out of the firewall. This is a power steering delete kit to completely replace the power steering system (power steering pump, reservoir, lines, power rack and fluid).

I have been running this in my 6-speed car and I absolutely love it. Works so much better than a power rack with the lines capped off! It drops 27lbs of weight off the front of the car when compared to the full factory power system. On it's own, my manual rack weighs 10 pounds less than the factory rack.

KIT SPECS:

  • Ratios available: 20:1 and 14:1 (I recommend 20:1 for street use / slower than factory ratio)
  • Weight: 13.6 lbs
  • Travel: 14:1 = 1.75" per 1 revolution, 20:1 = 1.5" per 1 revolution
  • Travel distance on this rack is a bit longer than the factory rack, so you will actually get more turning radius with this rack!
  • Drivers mount is unique, allows you to clock the rack to have clearance for different engine combinations, like for dry sump guys, might need to clock it down more to allow for pump clearance. Includes a drill bit, tap and set screw to lock it where you want it.

 

You might say, wow this is very expensive for something so simple, and I do not disagree! However, it is the a reflection of the costs involved to make this unit.

Here is why it costs what it does:

    1. Disassemble the rack from Flaming River
    2. I remove the inner tie rods and send them to a machine shop to go on a CNC lathe, where they are cut shorter and then rethreaded to the proper length for the supra.
    3. In order to adapt to the stock Toyota steering column I had to get a custom splined shaft designed and CNC cut. I then weld the spline shaft to a chromoly tube, and weld on a best quality u-joint at the other end where it attaches to the rack. This is not cheap, but it eliminates me having to charge a core for your factory intermediate shaft. This way if you ever want to go back to the stock power steering you will still have everything you need.
    4. To make this rack bolt in, and mount in the factory location I had a shop design and fabricate the driver's side rack mount. For the passenger side you can use the factory mount with a small shim.
    5. I reassemble the rack with the cnc'd shorter inner tie rods and ship it out

Install Guide
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you go to install the rack, install it with ONLY the passenger side mount first, and make sure the passenger side bushing is properly synching down on the rack. I have seen customers install these with old, worn bushings and it is not secure. Make sure the passenger side own its own holds the rack nice and tight, and then proceed to install the drivers mount. You want to have two side fully holding the rack securely, not just depending on the drivers side mount to hold all the stress. Also, do not overtighten the u-bolt clamp on the drivers side.
